New to the latest cosmetic treatments? If you haven’t tried out microblading, but are interested in a long-term, semi-permanent solution to wild brows, microblading might be just the trick for you.

Created with fine, hairline strokes through the existing brow, microblading is a type of cosmetic tattooing that fills in empty patches, inconsistencies, and corrects asymmetrical brows. A popular trend among skincare enthusiasts and makeup gurus alike, microblading streamlines morning routines and can range from natural to a strong, bold brow; however, like all innovative cosmetic trends, comes with a slew of myths and misconceptions.

For our new clients who want to make their morning routine easier, we’ve cleared up some of the common mistruths we’ve found online about microblading. Determined to clear the air when it comes to the safety, efficacy, and accessibility of cosmetic tattooing, we want every client to have the information they need to make an informed choice for them.

First up? Microblading. Read on to learn more about this everyday procedure and the facts about some of the most common myths we’ve read online.

Myth 1: Cosmetic tattooing, brow feathering, 3D brows, and microblading are all different aesthetic procedures.

This one is false! Brow feathering, microblading, and the newer 3D brows are all types of cosmetic tattooing–what does differ is the final look or outcome of the brow. To summarise:

  • Microblading: Fine, hair like strokes positioned in the brow to correct asymmetries, empty patches, and create a more manicured or fluffier brow.
  • 3D Brows: A newer look on the market, 3D brows pop with a darker, bolder look–also achieved through waxing, shading, and tinting where needed.
  • Feathering: See microblading–it’s pretty much the same thing! Some technicians will use a combination of microblading fine stroke ‘hairs’ and shading–an airbrushed effect that creates a consistent filled in look.
  • Cosmetic Tattoos: The act of using skin safe pigments and inks to create a semi-permanent cosmetic effect on the eyebrows, eyelids, or lips. Ultimately, most areas can be treated for cosmetic tattooing–simply chat to our team about your preferred look and we’ll see what we can design.

Myth 2: Microblading is a permanent aesthetic choice.

Also untrue. Microblading and cosmetic tattooing on the Gold Coast are semi-permanent solutions that are injected into the more superficial layers of the skin using iron-oxide based pigments. Designed to leave the skin in time, the inks aren’t injected as deeply as traditional body tattoos–a combination that ensures your tattoo will fade in time.

While this may seem a bit disheartening, it’s the best possible outcome! The fading allows your brow technician to make changes and alterations with changing trends, personal preferences, and aesthetics. Some lifestyle choices and skin types will be prone to faster fading, so speak with your technician about aftercare instructions to maintain your look as long as you can.

Myth 3: Microblading isn’t a type of cosmetic tattooing.

Again! False. Microblading is just one type of cosmetic tattooing–right up there with brow feathering, shading, and 3D brows. The main difference between each service is the aesthetic outcome–as well as the instrument and techniques used to apply the pigments. Microblading specifically creates tiny, hair-like incisions in the brow that mimic natural brows. A semi-permanent solution, microblading helps correct asymmetries, patchy brows, and sparse hairlines.

Myth 4: Clients have no say in the type of brow they receive.

This one is a definite no. Just like regular tattooing, we work closely with our cosmetic tattooing clients to design a look they’ll be happy to boast every day. Prior to every appointment, we map out a tattoo that will complement your ideal look and face shape so it will best compliment you.

That’s just one of the benefits of cosmetic tattoos–because your personal preferences and styles may change in time, we can adjust your look and work with fading pigments over time.
